Chivalry 2: Crossplay 2026 Strategy for Massive Battles, Weapons & Classes

Complete guide to the medieval battlefield — classes, cross‑platform play & strategies

Chivalry 2 is a multiplayer first‑person slasher that expands upon Torn Banner Studios’ original game with bigger battles and refined combat. The official FAQ states that it offers 64‑player team objective maps with castle sieges and villages to pillage, delivering a next‑generation visual leap and an expanded combat system. The sequel also emphasises player expression by letting you keep fighting even when wounded and customizing your character with numerous voice‑lines and cosmetic options.

Post‑launch content & the end of development

Torn Banner promised to double the size of Chivalry 2 post‑launch, and they delivered. By July 2024 the game had received multiple major updates adding maps, modes, weapons and features. In the Regicide Update (v2.11) released in May 2024, the developers added the Regicide at Trayan Citadel map, a new campaign pass and the versatile Goedendag polearm. They also continued to improve existing maps and added features like mounted combat.

On 30 July 2024 Torn Banner announced that Chivalry 2 is now feature complete, having reached its goal of more than doubling its content. The studio noted that after three years and eleven updates the game will enter maintenance mode, with critical issues patched but no further content planned. Development resources are being redirected to new projects in the Chivalry universe and other multiplayer games. Minor hotfixes, such as patch 2.11.4 released in December 2025, address stability and anti‑cheat issues but do not add new features.

Cross‑platform matchmaking and parties

Since launch on 8 June 2021, Chivalry 2 has allowed cross‑platform matchmaking across PC, PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox One/Series X|S. The long‑requested cross‑play party system arrived in the Raiding Party Update (v2.8) in May 2023. This update introduced friend codes that let players add friends from any platform and form parties before joining matches, albeit in beta form. The same patch added the Sacking of Bridgetown map, the Heavy Cavalry Sword for mounted warfare and a limited‑time Mounted Arena mode. Cross‑play parties remain in beta but allow you to enjoy the game with friends regardless of platform.

Classes and subclasses

Chivalry 2 features four main classes — Knight, Vanguard, Footman and Archer — each with unique stats and weapon options. Every class has three subclasses that modify special abilities and playstyles. According to PCGamesN’s class guide, these classes and their subclasses provide varied experiences from tanky melee fighters to agile damage dealers. Here’s an overview:

ClassBase TraitsSubclasses & Signature Abilities
KnightHighest health (≈175 HP), versatile weapons; slower foot movement.Officer – heals teammates using a trumpetGuardian– uses a shield and deploys a healing bannerCrusader – wields heavy weapons and throws oil pots.
VanguardHigh speed and stamina but lower health.Devastator – heavy two‑handed weapons and oil pot.Raider – can equip two primary weapons and uses a trumpet to buff allies.Ambusher – knife‑throwing assassin with bonus back‑stab damage and quiver ability.
FootmanMedium speed and health; excels at support.Poleman – long polearms, sprint‑attack bonus and spike traps.Man‑at‑Arms – smaller shield and agility.Field Engineer – constructs barricades and heals when aiding allies.
ArcherLowest health and stamina; only ranged class.Longbowman – high‑range bow with spike traps and braziers.Crossbowman – powerful bolts, deployable shield and healing banner.Skirmisher – javelins or throwing axes with resupply quiver and optional shield or trap.

Unlocking subclasses: You start with the base subclass for each class. Level up the class to rank 4 and 7 to unlock the second and third subclasses and so on. Loadouts and cosmetics can be edited in the Armoury using in‑game currency; you gain gold at the end of each match and the amount is based how many points you gained by completing objectives, killing the enemy, sabotaging & destroying enemy logistics, building fortifications [Field Engineer], and healing & reviving teammates.

Core gameplay features

  • Cinematic battles & 64‑player maps – Team Objective maps support up to 64 players and include castle sieges, forest ambushes and village raids. Post‑launch updates more than doubled the map roster, culminating in Regicide at Trayan Citadel.
  • Revamped combat system – Chivalry 2 offers weighty and fluid swordplay with combos, feints and dragging mechanics. Players can perform light and heavy slashes, overheads and stabs; dragging your mouse or thumb‑stick alters the timing and direction of attacks.
  • Expanded sandbox – Interact with the environment by grabbing objects (e.g., chickens or barrels) and using them as improvised weapons.
  • Player expression – Thousands of new voice‑lines, deep character customization and the ability to keep fighting even when dismembered add humour and role‑play.
  • Cross‑platform play – Matchmaking across PC, PlayStation and Xbox has been available since launch. Cross‑play parties were introduced in the 2.8 update.

Tips for new and returning knights

Tips worth remembering:

  1. Don’t be predictable – feint and try to out move your opponents, strive the hit behind their defense trying to swing around them.
  2. Be aggressive – remember attacks that land interrupt your opponent, try landing the first hit but be prepared to block or counter.
  3. Defend only when being attacked – Blocking leaves you vulnerable to kicks and being flanked; block then immediately attacking will allow you to reposte which increases the speed of your attack.
  4. Counter to keep Initiative – countering will give a very fast attack boost and will also counter your opponent and all their allies so long you aim at their weapons. On occasion stab type weapons pierce through this defense so countering a stab if possible will increase your chance to keep the initiative.
  5. Minimize friendly fire – aim for your enemies, if allies are blocking your ability to hit the enemy try flanking or aim for enemies less attacked. Enemies distracted are the easiest target, there is no defending you back each when you’re surrounded.
  6. Keep the Initiative and Momentum – When sprinting and attacking you are able to build a momentum of speed because every attack is a step forward, swing then feint to a heavy attack will allow you to reach enemies at a long range and land a heavy damaging hit that is difficult to read.

Chivalry 2 delivers chaotic medieval warfare with deep melee combat and robust cross‑platform support. The game’s eleven major updates more than doubled its content, culminating in the Regicide Update and a final cinematic map. Although Torn Banner Studios has moved on to new projects, Chivalry 2 continues to thrive thanks to stable servers and occasional hotfixes. Choose your class, master your weapon, party up across platforms and head into battle — the legend of Argon II and Malric lives on.
