Updated November 4, 2026. Your next castle will take longer to build. Firefly Studios now plans to launch Stronghold 4 in Steam Early Access on April 20, 2027, replacing its earlier December 7, 2026 date. The older Firefly factsheet still displays December, but the newer developer announcement and live Steam store list April 2027.
Why did Stronghold 4 move to 2027?
Firefly says it is using extra development time to respond to feedback from the Steam Next Fest demo and polish the opening Early Access build. It also intends to include an economic campaign at launch instead of adding it in a later update. The studio has not given a date for the eventual version 1.0 release.
What is included at Early Access launch?
Firefly’s November update names a full story campaign, custom skirmish, a skirmish trail, Free Build and the economic campaign. The game is a narrative prequel in medieval England centered on Penryn of Wethel, with castle economy, construction and sieges at its core. Steam lists the current Early Access product as single-player.
Will Stronghold 4 have multiplayer?
Not in the currently described Early Access launch build. Steam’s developer FAQ places online multiplayer and a co-op skirmish trail in its version 1.0 plans. Plans can change; do not describe either mode as available on April 20. A skirmish against CPU opponents is not online multiplayer.
